Frequently Asked Questions
What Does It All Mean?
The Offering?
This is a time when we give back to God according to how He has blessed us. Our Tithes and Offerings support the ministries of this Church and His work around the world. If you are a first time guest, please don’t feel like you have to participate in the offering.
Sunday School?
Sunday School is our Christian education program with classes designed for each age group. We meet before the morning worship service.
The Invitation?
At the close of the worship service Pastor Dana will allow individuals to respond to God’s challenge on their life. It may be a decision for salvation, for recommitment of your life, for believer’s baptism, or church membership. People are always welcome to come and pray.
Why Should I be Baptized?
After salvation, believer’s baptism is the first step of obedience for those wishing to follow Christ with their lives. It is an outward expression of an inward work of the Spirit of God.
There are three reasons why we as Christians should be baptized:
1. Jesus was baptized. "Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John". Matthew 3:13
2. We are instructed to be baptized. Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ…" Acts 2:38
3. Jesus taught the church to baptize new believers. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Matthew 28:19
Why Should I Join First Baptist Church of Affton? God calls us to public identification. He calls us to publicly confess Christ as Savior…to identify with Him in water baptism…to serve Him in the local Church.
Membership in a local church:
1. Identifies you as a Christian, Jesus said, "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words…the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory." Mark 8:38
2. Provides an environment for spiritual growth. "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another." Hebrews 10:25
3. Gives you an opportunity for ministry. Paul spoke of the church as the body of Christ and each member a part of that body performing various tasks according to the gifts that God had given them. You have been given certain ministry gifts. The church lets you use them.
4. Encourages others. "The brothers there had heard that we were coming…And they traveled to meet us. At the sight of these men Paul thanked God and was encouraged." Acts 28:15. Your membership in a local church will not only encourage you but others too. We need you.
Our church receives members in three ways:
1. Public profession of faith in Christ and as a candidate for believer’s baptism.
2. Transfer of membership from another Baptist church.
3. Statement of Faith and prior believer’s baptism. |
